24-Year-Old Appears In Court Over Murder

A 24-year-old man has appeared in court in South Africa in connection with the murder of an Irishman there.

Charity worker John Curran was found stabbed to death at an apartment in Cape Town earlier this month.

The 60-year-old from Dublin was due to return home after spending the last two years overseeing the building of homes and schools for the underprivileged.

Local Journalist JJ Cornish says the suspect is being held in custody, to appear in court again next Monday:

He’s 24 years old and we don’t know anything more about him – this killing of John Curran has raised quite a storm in Capetown – and the MEC – the member for the executive council said it was a sad and senseless killing.”
