There has been a spike in the number of domestic violence cases since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Gardaí have reported a 25% increase in calls with over 100 people prosecuted in the last week of May.

When the outbreak began Operation Faoiseamh was set up to target the crime of domestic abuse, and it shows that over the last number of weeks Gardaí made over 8,000 contacts, or attempted contacts, with victims since the 1 April.

The Garda National Protective Services Bureau has renewed its appeal to victims of domestic violence to contact them for help.
