20,000 Reports Of Domestic Violence

Many children across Ireland have seen their mother being threatened, physically assaulted and raped by their boyfriends, partners and husbands.

That’s according to Women’s Aid annual report which shows nearly 20,000 disclosures of domestic violence against women and children were made to them last year.

It highlights that there is a greater risk of child abuse in homes where domestic violence against the mother is more severe.

Lynda Smyth, manager of the Women’s Aid Helpline, says many children in Ireland are living in fear.
