A baby was unharmed despite being left on a roadside after a car was stolen according to Gardaí.

The thief stole the car on St. Attracta Road in Cabra just after 7pm on Sunday evening after the owners briefly left it unattended with the engine running outside their home.

A nine-year-old escaped from the car before the thief sped off, but the 10-month-old was still strapped into the back seat.

The car-jacker left the child on a roadside nearby shortly afterwards before making off with the car. No one has been arrested and no description of the man has been issued.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating the unauthorised taking of a vehicle that occurred on St Attracta Road, Dublin 7, shortly after 7pm on Sunday.”

An infant passenger that was in the vehicle at the time was found shortly after uninjured.

No arrests have been made; however, Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.”
