Rock trio Band of Skulls have announced a new album and a new single ‘Killer’. The album is called By Default and will be released via BMG.

The first single from the album was premiered on Radio One by Annie Mac earlier this week, with drummer Matt Hayward describing it as going “back to square one” for the band.

Speaking about what the new album means for Band of Skulls, singer/guitarist Russel Mardsen said “It’s definitely a new era.” He continued saying “The first three records were like a trilogy, a piece of work in of themselves. We wanted to do those things, and we did them all. We took a breath, took a look at what we’d done, and started from scratch again.”

The new album is being produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Patti Smith) and recorded in Rockfield Studios. The follow up to 2014’s Himalayan, the trio – made up of Russell Marsden,  Emma Richardson (bass and vocals) and Matt Hayward – took a conscious step back from relentless touring to concentrate on recording the record.

So far Band of Skulls have only announced a number of intimate shows for this year ahead of the launch of the new album. They will be playing shows across the UK in places like Glasgow, Cardiff & Liverpool.
