Killiney and Seapoint Beaches have both been awarded a Blue Flag for 2022.

The award was presented at a ceremony at Curracloe Beach in Co. Wexford on Friday.

Beaches in Cork, Galway, Dublin, Kerry and Wexford were all added to the Blue Flag Awards list.

Trá Inis Oirr in the Aran Islands has been awarded a blue flag for the first time, while Fountainstown in Cork received its first since 1991.

85 beaches and 10 marinas were awarded blue flags – a record total.

Speaking on the award, An Cathaoirleach Councillor Lettie McCarthy said:

This is a wonderful achievement and will greatly enhance the attractiveness of our local beaches as we come into the Summer months. I would like to thank and congratulate the dlr Cleansing & Beaches Section on all their hard work and for making this happen.”

Staff have maintained daily cleaning and management of the beaches, water quality sampling and reporting, management of maintenance works and the preparation of the blue flag application.

Peter Buckley, A/Senior Executive Engineer at Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Council said:

Obtaining the Blue Flag status once again for Killiney and Seapoint beaches is something that our Cleansing and Beaches team are very proud of. A lot of work goes on in relation to bathing water sampling and we endeavour to keep our beaches litter free and as safe as possible so that the public can enjoy these scenic beach locations.”
