Computers Will Not Replace Teachers

This year’s Junior and Leaving Cert exams will NOT be marked by a computer.

The State Examinations Commission has insisted that reports claiming otherwise are “misleading”.

From this summer, both Leaving and Junior Cert exam scripts will be marked online.

This involves scanning images of scripts using specially designed software which will then allow the examiner to mark the student’s answers.

The State Exam Commission insists a computer will not be marking any work.

The method is being introduced following a successful pilot in 2016 and 2017, with examiners giving extremely positive feedback.

According to the State Exam Commission “the information widely reported today in relation to online marking of the certificate examinations is misleading.”
