Beam me up, because Star Trek is coming back with a brand new show and they’ve just released a trailer.

The Star Trek franchise is boldly going where no show has gone before, and is setting itself up as a prequel to the shows and films we’ve seen before.

The new series, which is set to hit American screens on CBS and will be available to stream on Netflix for all of us over the pond, is based ten years before Kirk and Spock.  Fans of the series have been getting into hyper drive with excitement over the trailer. While a lot of mystery still surrounds the show, it’s looking from the trailer that the show is setting up the long running rivalry between the federation and the Klingons.
In a move that could prove to be controversial for fans of the show, the show presents another new version of the Klingons that  appear different from both the original series and the following series.

The trailer opens on a desert world, with two figures clad in desert robes: Captain Phillipa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) and her First Officer, Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green).  Walking on a planet that many fans are speculating is the Vulcan home world as it looks similar to previous depictions of the Vulcan home world.

The shows leading protagonist, Burnham, seems to have been raised by the Vulcans but was never truly accepted, as indicated by the conversations between her and  Sarek  (James Frain), a Vulcan astrophysicist and the father of Spock. Throughout the trailer Sarek appears as a hologram, however no explanation is given as to why he is appearing in such  form.

With the launch of a new show and whole host of new ships and characters along with races of aliens. Including one race of alien which states that they have been biologically designed to sense death. And they’re sensing death now. Ooooh.

The new series will see the an extra dimension added to the long running debate among treckies on the best series and best captain (*cough* Picard/Voyager *cough*)

CBS recently announced that Star Trek: Discovery had received an order increase and a companion show on CBS All Access. Star Trek: Discovery was originally intended to run 13 episodes, but will now run 15. The companion show will be named Talking Trek. Make it so.
