Gardaí in Co. Meath are investigating an armed robbery at a post office in Athboy this morning.

At around 9am a gang of three to four men dressed in black entered the post office, threatened staff and demanded money.

One of the men was armed with an axe and a staff member received minor injuries.

The culprits fled the scene with a sum of cash.

A car, believed to have been involved in the robbery, was later found on fire on the M3.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the raid or anyone who saw the car on the M3, to get in touch.
