Gardaí have arrested a man today in connection with a firework attack on members of An Garda Siochana at an anti-lockdown protest in Dublin city centre on Saturday last.

The incident took place at a so-called march against the current Covid-19 restrictions on Grafton Street.

Footage of the incident went viral over the weekend. Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said that it was very likely the individual would be identified after the video footage.

Gardai have now confirmed that a man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident. He is being held at Irishtown Garda Station.

Gardaí said “A man in his 30s was arrested this morning, Tuesday, March 2, and is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at Irishtown Garda Station.

The investigation is ongoing.”
