Gardaí are investigating the murder of a 37–year-old woman in an apartment at Dorset Square. A man is also in hospital with serious injuries after the incident on Gardiner Street Upper.

Gardaí were called to the scene at around 11:30 pm after receiving phone call. They found two people with serious injuries and both were treated by Dublin Fire Brigade.

A 35-year-old man was brought to the Mater Hospital where his injuries are described as serious. Despite treatment a 37-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Some neighbours speaking to the media said they didn’t hear any noises last night.

Local councillor Neil Ring said it was a sad day for people in the north inner city;

“Nobody heard anything  – or there doesn’t seem to be any neighbours who’ve heard anything at all – I suppose that’s a reflection on the type of accommodation that the people were living in…but it’s a tragic event – people around the area are saddened and shocked that someone has lost their life.”

Earlier the DSPCA removed a pet cat from the scene, which remains sealed off as the investigation continues.

The scene has been preserved for a Forensic examination and The State Pathologist has also been notified.

Witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to contact Mountjoy Garda station on 01 6668600 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
