A birthday in Cork was broken up by gardaí last night despite the spread of covid-19, with more than 100 mostly maskless people in close contact told to clear off home.

Gardaí arrived at a venue in Blarney around 11pm, described as a shed, where a “large gathering in excess of 100 people was taking place”.

The crowd was told to get going and gardaí confirmed that there was no public order incidents or offences.

Positivity rates are climbing steady since November and the health service is at a point of of no return as it threatens to become overwhelmed.

Despite repeated pleas from public health officials, frontline staff, and politicians, many people continue to flaunt of guidelines by blatantly ignoring or disregarding any requests.
