According to reports, gardaí have foiled what seems to have been a potential gangland hit in Dublin.

Three men aged in their 20s, 40s and 50s were arrested. That’s after gardaí stopped two cars in the Artane area and also apprehended a gun.

The men are now being detained at garda stations across the capital under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Breaking News reports that Assistant Garda Commissioner John O’Driscoll says he is quite sure “that the intelligence-led operation had prevented a firearm being used to take a life’.

Also involved in the operation was Detective Chief Superintendent Angela Willis, the head of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

Ms Willis maintains the seizure of firearms and the arrest of those who are prepared to use them to take life, is a major importance for the force.
