‘Ghost Brokers’ Arrested In Insurance Scams

An operation targeting ‘Ghost Brokers’ has resulted in searches of several properties in Dublin on Wednesday, November 29th.

Today, November 30th, Gardaí from the Special Investigation Unit DMR Traffic, confirmed the extent of the operation which led to the seizing of a large amount of cash.

Members of the Criminal Assets Bureau and Cyber Crime Unit were on hand to provide assistance as a number of high value watches, five motor vehicles, an imitation firearm and a small quantity of drugs were all found alongside the cash.

Six bank accounts with in excess of €200K have also been frozen.

Ghost Brokers, sell worthless motor insurance policies for €300 or more, which leave drivers uninsured without them knowing.

A male in his mid 30s was arrested following the search of a house in Lucan and he is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ronanstown Garda Station.

Gardaí have confirmed further searches are currently being undertaken throughout the country.
