Met Éireann says there’s no end in sight to the heatwave.

Temperatures this week look set to break 40-year-old records.

There’s a yellow weather warning in place, with the mercury set to hit 27 degrees today and 30 degrees later in the week.

Previous record highs include 31.6 degrees in Clare and 31.5 in Kilkenny in 1976.

Met Eireann Forecaster Pat Clarke says people need to be prepared for the warm weather to last:

“Going forward it’s going to stay very warm if not hot this week – we’re looking at temperatures well into the 20s next weekend.”

Safety messages are also being issued to anyone going near rivers, lakes and sea during the heatwave.
