Great news reported in todays Irish Independent for music store lovers!

More than six months after the record store chain closed 16 of its stores across the country, the reopening was celebrated with a live performance from the Strypes.

New owner Hilco Capital are in the process of reopening a further three of the shut HMV stores at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre in Dublin, the Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick and Dundrum Town Centre.

Hilco, who purchased DVD chain Xtravision in June, now plans to open HMV outlets in 26 Xtravision stores across the country by the end of the month.

Chief executive Paul McGowan said: “We are thrilled to be able to bring HMV back to Ireland. The demand from consumers has been very strong since we acquired the business from the receivers so it is gratifying to be able to get four stores up and running in such a short period of time.”

“We will also be launching our new digital product in Ireland later in the year and have more exciting developments being announced in coming weeks,” he said.

In a announcement earlier this week, welcomed by the Head of National Consumer Agency Karen O’Leary, Hilco said that HMV would redeem gift cards which were not honoured during the receivership of the old HMV business.

Voucher holders need to register them online with HMV before October 11, and they will receive a replacement voucher with an equal value from October 14 that will be valid until November 15.
