Locals on the Isle of Skye have reportedly grown frustrated with the filming of the upcoming Highlander reboot, as Hollywood stars Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe descend on the Scottish island alongside helicopters, road disruptions and restricted footpaths.

The blockbuster remake of the cult 1986 fantasy film is currently shooting across parts of the Scottish Highlands, with Skye and nearby locations serving as dramatic backdrops for the action epic.

While excitement initially surrounded the arrival of major stars and film crews, some residents now say the production has become a major disruption to daily life.

One local claimed constant helicopter activity linked to the production has become increasingly difficult to tolerate.

“It seems Russell and Henry are being flown around in three choppers and the din is bloody incessant at times,” the resident said.

“At first we were quite excited about having Highlander filmed on Skye. It’s not often you get big Hollywood actors roaming about.”

However, enthusiasm reportedly faded as filming intensified.

“But the helicopters make so much noise that it’s hard to think,” the local added.

Residents have also raised concerns about restrictions being placed on public walking routes and footpaths around filming areas.

“The number of restrictions on public footpaths is getting on our nerves,” the source said.

“We think they’re here for at least a few more weeks and it’s just become a huge nuisance. Most people here just want it to be over.”

The Isle of Skye, one of Scotland’s most scenic and remote destinations, stretches roughly 50 miles in length and is home to just over 13,000 people.

The island has become increasingly popular with film and television productions in recent years due to its dramatic mountains, coastline and rugged landscapes.

Earlier this week, Scottish actress Karen Gillan shared a behind-the-scenes photograph from filming near Eilean Donan Castle, located close to Skye.

The image showed director’s chairs bearing both her name and Henry Cavill’s, further confirming the scale of the production now underway in the Highlands.

The reboot is being directed by Chad Stahelski, best known for helming the hugely successful John Wick franchise.

The original Highlander, released in 1986, starred Christopher Lambert as immortal warrior Connor MacLeod and became a cult classic thanks to its fantasy mythology, sword fights and iconic soundtrack by Queen.

In the reboot, Henry Cavill takes over the lead role of Connor MacLeod, a 16th-century Scottish Highlander who discovers he is one of a group of immortals locked in an eternal battle.

Russell Crowe will portray Juan Sanchez-Villalobos Ramirez, Connor’s mentor and fellow immortal — a role famously played by Sean Connery in the original film.

Meanwhile, Karen Gillan has reportedly been cast as Heather, Connor’s first wife.

Cavill has previously spoken about the intense preparation involved for the role, hinting at extensive sword training ahead of filming.

“If you think you’ve seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet,” the actor teased earlier in production.

An official release date for the reboot has not yet been confirmed.

Despite the complaints from some island residents, the production is expected to continue filming in Scotland for several more weeks as work ramps up on one of Hollywood’s most anticipated fantasy reboots.
