Man Arrested After Violent Sexual Assault At Parnell Place

A man has been arrested following a violent sexual assault in Dublin‘s north inner city. 

A Portuguese woman was attacked in the early hours of Monday morning. The assault took place at around 3am on Monday in an alleyway at Parnell Place. It’s understood the alarm was raised when concerned residents heard a woman screaming. Gardai arrived on the scene while the victim was still being assaulted. She was then taken to the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit in the Rotunda.

A man in his 30s was arrested but became ill and had to be brought to the Mater for treatment. It means his period of detention has been delayed.

A Garda Spokesperson said: .

“Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s following a alleged sexual assault of a female at Parnell Place Dublin 1, which occurred at 3am approx on 9th Oct 2017. Gardaí received a call and attended the scene where they arrested the man. He is currently detained at Store Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. The woman was taken to the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit and she was released a short time later. Investigations are ongoing.”
