A 20-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of an elderly man in north Co. Dublin.

Owen Maughan, of Dun Saithne, Balbriggan, is accused of murdering Christy Hall last November.

Mr Hall a 65-year-old pensioner was found dead in his home in Balbriggan on November 24th last.

Just before 11 o’clock this morning, Maughan was charged with his murder and brought before Judge Deirdre Gearty at Balbriggan District Court.

She was told he made no reply when the murder charge was put to him. There was no application for bail today.

When it comes to murder cases, that can only be considered by a High Court judge.

The hearing only took a few minutes. Afterwards, Mr Maughan was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Tuesday.
