Man Pronounced Dead Following Lorry Collision

Gardaí in Carrickmacross are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the N2 between Castleblaney and Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.

Shortly before 5pm a collision involving a car and an articulated lorry took place near a filling station on the way into Carrickmacross.

The driver of the car, a 78-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, and his body has now been removed to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda for a post mortem examination.

The driver of the lorry was taken by ambulance to hospital where his injuries are thought to be non life threatening.

The road remained closed over night, and Gardaí are asking the public to plan their journey as traffic diversions are expected to remain in place until noon today, November 30th, in an effort to facilitate the removal of a fully-laden overturned articulated lorry.
