Former footballer, Gary Neville stunned fans at a recent Reytons gig by becoming the band's bassist for the night.

The Reytons were playing at Manchester's Aviva Studios last Saturday night (8 March), when they introduced Man United legend Neville to the stage as they performed 'Love Life' at the show.

Following this, Neville's performance received huge praise from frontman Jonny Yerrell, who said to the audience: “He is honestly one of the most down-to-earth and nicest people we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with".

"If Lee can play for The Reytons, then so can I"

This live performance from Neville comes amid speculation that he was  to fill in as bassist for Lee Holland at one stage, after the former footballer turned Sky Sports pundit appeared in a tongue-in-cheek audition tape to replace the injured Holland, promoting the Reytons tour in September.

"If Lee can play for The Reytons, then so can I", Neville can be heard saying in the clip.

Neville was then asked to show off his dancing skills, as well as how long it would take him to down a pint of beer. He also took part in a round of Higher or Lower challenge, as well as a blindfolded taste taste.

"You've literally ticked every box there pal. But I think the only question is now, you know, what're you actually like on bass?", Jonny Yerrell told Neville, who replied: "I've never played bass in my life".

This prompted Yerrell to tell him, "You're in".

News of Neville's inclusion in The Reytons line up was announced in September last year, ahead of their current UK and Ireland tour, which has already seen them perform at The Academy, in Dublin on March 1. More on this from Nova here.

The band who landed a number one album with 'What's Rock and Roll?' in 2023, despite no label backing, will also perform shows across Europe this month, as well ad headlining Tramlines Festival in July.

“Will Gary be joining them? Who knows…”, a press release said.
