A high-profile, multi-million euro legal dispute involving mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor and his former friend and sparring partner Artem Lobov has been settled at the High Court.
Lobov had taken legal action against McGregor over an alleged agreement relating to the whiskey brand Proper No. Twelve. He claimed that the two men had reached an informal deal in October 2017 at a gym in Dublin, where it was agreed that Lobov would receive 5% of the proceeds from any eventual sale of the brand. According to Lobov, the agreement was made verbally, sealed with a handshake, and witnessed by three individuals.

In his claim, Lobov maintained that he played a central role in the early development of the whiskey brand, describing himself as its original creator and co-founder. He alleged that despite his contributions, he was ultimately pushed out of the business.
McGregor, however, denied that any such profit-sharing agreement existed. While he acknowledged offering Lobov $1 million as a gesture of appreciation for his involvement in developing the whiskey concept, he rejected the idea that Lobov was entitled to a percentage of the sale proceeds. Lobov declined this offer.
The dispute stems from the eventual sale of Proper No. Twelve in 2021, when McGregor and his business partners sold their shares to Proximo Spirits in a deal valued at approximately $600 million. It is widely believed that McGregor personally earned over €100 million from the transaction.
Lobov initiated legal proceedings in 2022 in an effort to enforce what he described as a binding agreement. The case was scheduled to begin in the High Court and was expected to last around eight days.
However, shortly before proceedings were set to get underway, the court was informed that both parties had reached a settlement. Lobov’s senior counsel, Andrew Walker, confirmed that the matter had been resolved. A brief statement was also read on behalf of McGregor by his legal representative, Mark Lynam.
In the statement, McGregor expressed satisfaction that the dispute had been concluded, adding that he could now focus fully on preparations for an upcoming fight later this summer. He also acknowledged Lobov’s contributions to the whiskey venture, thanking him for his efforts.
After the hearing, Lobov declined to provide detailed comments to the media but indicated he was pleased with the outcome, stating simply that he was “happy with the resolution.”
The specific terms of the settlement were not disclosed in court.
