Met Éireann has issued a status yellow advisory warning for the country ahead of a potential storm arriving on Thursday.

High winds and heavy rain could hit the country on Thursday night and into Friday morning, with the west and north west set to be worst affected.

Met Éireann’s Joan Blackburn explains how the potential storm’s developing:

“At the moment, the track of the storm centre is a bit further to the west than that area of low pressure there a few weeks ago, but there are some very strong winds around it as well. The storm hasn’t been named yet – it’s under continuous review – and at the moment we are advising people of this. If it should upgraded to a storm or an orange warning then that warning will be issued later on this morning.”
