January Cold Snap

We’ve been enjoying a mild January so far, but the weather is expected to get colder this week.

From Wednesday, temperatures will fall to below normal with frost expected.

Meteorologist with Met Eireann Siobhan Ryan says we’re avoiding snow for now:

We can expect scattered heavy showers and good sunny spells midweek.

The showers will be more frequent and with the risk of hail and thunder in the west and north at first but extending to most areas during the day.

Top temperatures of just 4 to 7 degrees.

Scattered showers will continue for a time on Wednesday night. It will also turn very cold with lowest temperatures falling to between -3 to +2 degrees with widespread frost and some icy stretches.

Thursday will be dry with good sunny spells at first but cloud will increase later. It will stay cold with frost clearing only slowly in the morning and afternoon temperatures reaching just 3 to 5 degrees.
