Muse have been nominated for two Brit awards in the 2013 shortlist.

The three-piece, who last year released well-received album The 2nd Law, are in contention for Best British Group and Best British Live Act.

In the second category they’re up against the Rolling Stones, who staged a total of eight shows to mark their 50th anniversary in 2012. They were also nominated in the awards’ first year of 1977, but lost out to the Beatles.

Frontman Mick Jagger said: ”We all had such a blast, everyone was at the top of their game, and the hometown audiences at the O2 were just fantastic. It’s great to be nominated.”

US acts Bruce Springsteen and Jack White are named in the Best International category.

The Brits ceremony takes place in London on February 20.
