According to Billboard magazine, the wildfires currently wreaking havoc across northern and southern California have consumed Neil Young’s home.

The Canadian rocker announced the upsetting news by sharing a post on the Neil Young Archives. Young heavily criticised President Trump’s reluctance to take action regarding on climate change. The singer-songwriter also blasted the president’s outright denial of scientific evidence.

Young posted that it wasn’t the first time that he had lost a home,

“We are vulnerable because of climate change; the extreme weather events and our extended drought is part of it. [We] are up against something bigger than we have ever seen. It’s too big for some to see at all. Firefighters have never seen anything like this in their lives. I have heard that said countless times in the past two days, and I have lost my home before to a California fire, now another.”

It was reported that Young bought a Malibu idyll in 2016 from his then-girlfriend Daryl Hannah, the pair have subsequently become a married couple. Billboard has reached out to Young’s reps for further comment.

Young remains a ceaseless campaigner on environmental issues, directing his criticism at the agricultural chemical corporation Monsanto in his 2015 record ‘The Monsanto Years.’ He has also been outspoken in his disdain for Trump for a number of years.

Young cited Trump’s controversial tweet which directed blame at the “gross mismanagement” for the devastating wildfires, hundreds of thousands of Californians have been displaced. Trump’s comment has received angry responses from a host of musicians including Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and John Legend.

Young finishes his thoughts,

“Imagine a leader who defies science, saying these solutions shouldn’t be part of his decision-making on our behalf. Imagine a leader who cares more for his own, convenient option than he does for the people he leads. Imagine an unfit leader. Now imagine a fit one.”
