Netflix Confirms Star-Studded Line Up For Prince Andrew Drama

Following on from controversial Netflix series’ Harry & Meghan and The Crown, further controversy regarding the British Royal Family is coming your way.

The streaming service has confirmed that a brand new series Scoop, which will explore the infamous interview between disgraced Royal Prince Andrew and BBC Newsnight reporter Emily Matliss from 2019, is to arrive on Netflix at some point iin 2024.

According to Deadline, the drama will include a star-studded line up with British actor Rufus Sewell starring as Prince Andrew, and Gillian Anderson playing journalist Emily Matliss.

The Newsnight producer who secured the interview, Sam McAlister will be played by Billie Piper, with Keely Hawes starring as Amanda Thirsk, former Private secretary to Prince Andrew.

The drama has also been based on Sam McAlister’s memoir Scoops: Behind The Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews.

Having started filming this month, Scoop shows The Crown’s Philip Martin behind the camera.

“I’m thrilled to be directing this film for Netflix and – together with an extraordinary cast – to be bringing Sam McAlister’s revelatory insider’s account to the screen”, Martin said of the drama.

“Uptempo, immersive and cinematic, I want to put the audience inside the breathtaking sequence of events that led to the interview with Prince Andrew – to tell a story about a search for answers, in a world of speculation and varying recollections”.

Martin added, “It’s a film about power, privilege and differing perspectives and how – whether in glittering palaces or hi-tech newsrooms – we judge what’s true”. 

Following the interview, Prince Andrew was accused of showing a lack of empathy towards the victims of paedophile tycoon Jeffrey Epstein, and lacking remorse over his friendship with him.

Elsewhere, the disgraced Royal who has sinced stepped away from public life, also denied allegations of underage sex with Virginia Giuffre, who had claimed that she was trafficked for sex by Epstein.
