1. The Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists says it's highly unlikely that Down Syndrome will be diagnosed within the proposed 12-week-limit for abortions. It says that most women don't have their first pregnancy scan until three months and even then, a number of further tests are needed.

2. Gardai refused to give Tusla details of interviews with two children who were allegedly raped. The finding is included in the latest study from the Child Care Law Reporting Project, which also found that there's a lack of co-ordination between state services dealing with children.

3. There are suggestions that the point at which the higher income tax rate kicks in should be raised to €50K. At the moment the 40% rate applies to those earning just over €34K, while everyone who earns less than this pays 20%.

4. It could be time for Irish motorists to start turning their thoughts to the power of going electric. The AA's warning that a continued rise in the cost of crude oil is a worrying sign of the future. Their month-on-month survey shows the cost of petrol and diesel is largely unchanged at the pumps since December - but the cost of crude is continuing to rise.

5. Roger Federer says there are more "exciting times ahead" after securing his 20th Grand Slam tennis title. The Swiss veteran beat Marin Cilic in the Australian Open final to win the trophy for a record equalling sixth occasion.

6. U2 have announced three Irish dates as part of their upcoming tour. The band will play at the SSE Arena in Belfast on the 27th of October, before taking to the stage at Dublin's 3Arena on the 5th and 6th of November. The concerts are the latest additions to the 'eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE’ tour - read more here.
