A senior Garda has been appointed to investigate how an officer's loaded sub machine gun ended up on a Dublin street. The weapon was handed in to Store Street Garda station yesterday evening.

This man in Dublin's north inner city is shocked that a loaded machine gun belonging to an armed garda unit was mislaid in the area. The gun is believed to have fallen out of patrol car driven by the specially trained unit targeting the Kinahan Hutch gangs. Marie Metcalf from the Community Policing Forum says they are used to guns in the area: The Garda Watchdog says it hasn’t been asked to investigate the incident, GSOC says it only investigates incidents involving death or serious injury.

People in the Store Street area believe it’s a miracle no one was hurt: A senior Garda has been appointed to investigate the incident which comes during the Royal visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during which a major security operation is underway.
