2018 has been the best ever year for Irish tourism.

Tourism Ireland says that by the end of the year, 11.2 million people will have visited the island of Ireland – that’s an increase of 6% on 2017.

It’s thought the spend by these visitors during 2018 will be €6.1 billion – up 10% on last year

Tourism Ireland has today launched a new campaign to target the 2019 market.

It’s called ‘Fill your Heart with Ireland’  and is designed to attract visitors here in the coming 12 months.

CEO of Tourism Ireland Niall Gibbons says publicity from bloggers and social media influencers is an important part of their overseas programme and they already have bloggers scheduled to come to Ireland for every week of next year.

He also said that advertising on digital and social will give Ireland a very strong resonance across all the main markets particularly during the Christmas period.

As well as this, Dublin Airport has welcomed more than 30 million passengers this year – for the first time in its 78 year history.

The number of people using the airport is up 6% so far this year with particular growth on European and transatlantic routes.

Dublin Airport has said today that the figures are good news for the Irish economy.
