Gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry after a referee was attacked during a football match in Offaly yesterday.

It happened at Horseleap Football Club shortly before 1pm yesterday.

Daniel Sweeney suffered a suspected broken jaw and other facial injuries.

The referee, who’s in his 50s, was transferred to a Dublin hospital today for further treatment.
