Soccer AM is set to be cancelled after almost 30 years on air by Sky, according to reports.

The show was launched by presenter and producer Tim Lovejoy in 1995, which was also presented by Helen Chamberlain for 22 years.

“I wanted to make a football show that you could enjoy without liking football. It was people having fun, and I’ve always thought that’s what TV should be”, Lovejoy said of the show in 2020.

“There were a couple of people who worked on the show who really, really loved football and took it really seriously but my thinking was ‘Hold on, football’s about entertainment and having a good time’. The more political side of it all, to me, wasn’t something I was interested in”.

“adapt to evolving needs”

While a spokesperson did not confirm that Soccer AM was being cancelled, they did revealed that consultations will take place in order to “adapt to evolving needs” of viewers.

They said, “Soccer AM has played an important role in our coverage of football for the past three decades, and we continually adapt to the evolving needs of our customers”.

They also added, “We now go into a period of consultation to discuss the proposed changes with our people. We are unable to provide more detail while these consultations are underway”.

Speaking of the word cancelled, more and more names have also signed a petition to reverse the decision to cancel Roger Waters’ show at Frankfurt in May.

The Pink Floyd co founder’s show at the venue was cancelled over his alleged anti-semitic views. More on this here.
