The Supreme Court will continue hearing evidence on the rights of the unborn today.
They’re considering a High Court ruling which said the unborn has extensive rights under the constitution.
The appeal is in relation to an immigration case – that said that there are extensive rights in the constitution for the unborn outside the 8th amendment.
Yesterday Senior Counsel for the State argued that isn’t the case.
They say people only get full rights under the constitution from birth and the unborn only have the right to life.
Should the Supreme Court uphold the decision it could have implications for the abortion referendum, as it would mean repealing the 8th amendment wouldn’t remove all the rights of the unborn from the constitution
The case resumes this morning.
