Taoiseach Announces School And Public Office Closures

According to Breaking News, the Government has confirmed a general closure of schools and public buildings.

Roughly a million children are anticipated to be affected by the closures which will last till the end of the month. A two-week shutdown of schools, colleges and childcare facilities will start at 6pm tonight.

RTE reports the measures as follows are:

Schools colleges and childcare facilities will close from tomorrow. Teaching will be done online or remotely. State-run “cultural institutions” will close.

Indoor mass gatherings of more than 100 people and outdoor mass gatherings of more than 500 people should be cancelled.

Where it is possible to work remotely people should be allowed to do so. Outside of work, social interaction should be reduced as much as possible.

Shops should remain open and public transport will continue to operate. Public and businesses urged to take a sensible and level headed approach.

People arriving at airports and ports will be fully informed and should self isolate if they develop symptoms.

The measures will come into effect from 6pm today until 29 March

Mr Varadkar made the announcement on coronavirus in Washington DC, where he is on the St Patrick’s Day visit to the States.
