There’s just hours to go before the public is warned to stay indoors for the night. We’re being told not to go outside and a curfew is in place after 4pm as the Beast from the East batters the country with a blizzard.
In Dublin the Luas has stopped its trams. Busses cancelled all their services this morning and there will be no Dublin Bus Services tomorrow. Irish Rail will only run trains for the next hour. Cork airport remains closed.
Dozens of people slept out on the streets of Dublin last night, despite the red weather warning.
Several charities are working with local councils bringing rough sleepers food and warm clothing, and extra emergency beds have been opened.
Childline has confirmed that it is open again today until further notice. The charity was forced to close its phonelines overnight for only the second time in 30 years due to the weather conditions.
It advised young people that if they needed immediate help they should contact emergency services.
