Smith was accompanied by The Boss and Stipe for special renditions of ‘Because The Night’ and ‘People Have The Power’. Videos are available to check out below…

Patti Smith’s concert documentary, Horses: Patti Smith and her Band, debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23rd. After the screening, the singer songwriter took the stage at the Beacon Theater in New York. She was joined by some notable special guests.

A performance of ‘Because The Night’ written by The Boss involved a surprise appearance of the legend.

R.E.M frontman Michael Stipe also joined the duo to sing on ‘People Have the Power’.

Smith also sang with The Heartbreakers during the weekend, which saw the group playing their first live show since Tom Petty’s death. That was for the Light Up The Blues benefit concert for Autism Speaks at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, April 21st.

The Heartbreakers, including Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, and Steve Ferron were joined onstage by a host of stars including Patti Smith, Stephen Stills and Beck. As well as these stars, Neil Young, Shawn Colvin, Steve Earle, The White Buffalo and Chris Stills also played.

Horses: Patti Smith and her Band is directed by Steven Sebring and produced by Jimmy Iovine. THe film marks the 40th anniversary of Smith’s debut record of the same name. It documents the final show of the album’s celebratory tour. Smith is getting ready to support Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds at the new All Points East Festival on Friday 25th of May.
