Watch Foo Fighters' Free Pop-Up Show for Superfans!

Dave Grohl and his band delivered a set of rarities in a free pop up show for superfans on Sunday afternoon. Despite Taylor Hawkins best efforts to feign ignorance regarding the headline act as he asked the crowd, “Who is this Holy Shits band?…we haven’t even met them.”

That’s as the drummer’s cover band ‘Chevy Metal’ rocked their support slot at a pop-up gig in the car park of the Hollywood Palladium. Everyone in the crowd was in on the joke as the ‘Holy Shits’ aka the Foo Fighters took the stage to blast some rarely played tunes.

The Foos’ Sunday afternoon gig was a warm-up to promote the band’s upcoming Cal Jam Festival, kicking off October 5th and 6th in San Bernardino.

The Holy Shits played an hour-long set consisting mostly of rarities from the band’s lengthy career. Dave Grohl explained during the show that the band wanted to bust out songs they don’t usually get to play in their arena shows. Dave Grohl and Co were delivering exactly what they said on the tin launching into “Gimmie Stitches,” a track from the band’s 1999 record “There Is Nothing Left To Lose,” for only the second time in their history.

The obscurer tunes kept coming, with half of the small crowd gathered there basking in what Grohl called “Foo Fighter Nerd” heaven. The remainder of the audience seeming perplexed as they ripped through two choice selections from the Foo’s “The Colour and the Shape,” “Hey, Johnny Park!” and the epic “New Way Home.”

More uber fan joy delivered through the rock punch of “Weenie Beanie,” played for the first time since 2014, and The Foo’s encored with the sublime “Everlong.”

Those who got to the show early were treated to a delightful surprise when Queen drummer Roger Taylor lashed through a version of “Under Pressure,” while Chevy Metal’s Hawkins added his lead vocals, obviously humbled to be singing alongside a drummer he has hailed as his mentor. A blissful day for mega fans of The Foos.
