Ireland captain Peter O’Mahony has signed a new one year contract with Munster.
The 34 year old flanker has agreed a new contract with the province, ending speculation over his future, with rumours spreading that he was set to lose his contract with the IRFU.
Discussions over a new contract had been ongoing over recent months, but Peter O’Mahony has now agreed a deal to play into next season.
This will come as a major relief to Munster and Ireland alike, with the Cork Con man still a vital figure for both club and country.
A Steller Career
So far, Peter O’Mahony has made 291 professional rugby appearances, including 182 for his beloved Munster, 105 for Ireland, and 4 for the British & Irish Lions.
Last year, Peter O’Mahony had given up the Munster captaincy, with Tadgh Beirne stepping in. He was subsequently named captain of Ireland by manager Andy Farrell, leading his country to recent Six Nations title.
Overall, Peter O’Mahony has won two league titles with Munster, and five Six Nations titles with Ireland, since making his professional debut for Munster away to Ulster in 2010.
He also won Munster’s Player of the Year in 2019, and captained them since 2013.
Back in January, it was also confirmed that Ireland manager Andy Farrell would take charge of the British & Lions ahead of their tour of Australia in 2025.
