The controversial R ‘n B star R Kelly has broken his silence on abuse allegations against him in an explosive interview.
The veteran performer was charged with ten counts of aggravated sexual abuse against four woman, including three who were underage. He’s due in court again later this month.
Speaking to ‘CBS This Morning‘, the 52 year old defended himself dramatically.
“Have you ever had sex with anyone under the age of 17?” King asked.
“No. No,” Kelly said.
“Never?”
Kelly ….. “No!”.
King went on to made a further observation “So they’re lying on you? That’s your explanation? They’re lying on you?”
“Absolutely. Absolutely. Absolutely,” Kelly said. “I have been assassinated. I have been buried alive. But I’m alive.”
The allegations that he sexually, emotionally, and physically abused women and girls for decades are in his words “stupid”, “not true”, and “not fair”, Kelly said in an emotional interview with Gayle King.
“I didn’t do this stuff, this is not me, I’m fighting for my [expletive] life,” the singer said, his voice cracking as he was on the verge of tears.
“I beat my case,” he said. “When you beat something – we can’t double jeopardy me like that, it’s not fair, it’s not fair to nobody. When you beat your case, you beat your case.”
Asked about the many accounts of abuse separate from that one case, Kelly called them “not true”.
“You have never held anybody against their will?” King asked. “I don’t need to. Why would I?” Kelly said, echoing his lawyer that “he is a rock star. He doesn’t have to have non-consensual sex.”
“How stupid would it be for R Kelly, with all I’ve been through in my way, way past, to hold somebody – let alone, 4, 5, 6, 50 you said – how stupid would I be to do that?” Kelly said. “Use your common sense.”
Kelly went on….. “Stop it. You all quit playing! Quit playing! I didn’t do this stuff! This is not me! I’m fighting for my f***ing life! Y’all killing me with this sh*t!” Kelly said, standing up. “I gave you 30 years of my f***ing career!”
“Thirty years of my career! And y’all trying to kill me? You killing me, man! This is not about music! I’m trying to have a relationship with my kids! And I can’t do it! Y’all just don’t want to believe the truth! You don’t want to believe it!” .
“I hope this camera keep going”. “This is not true! That doesn’t even make sense! Why would I hold all these women? Their fathers and mothers told me, we’re going to destroy your career!”
