A suspended Garda, based in the south of the country has been arrested for the sexual abuse of minors, reported today to be his own daughters.
He is alleged to have abused his daughters over a period of 12 years. Allegations are said to include rape and sexual assault over that time frame.
According to the Irish Daily Star, which broke with the story on Monday, the allegations first emerged when one of the man’s daughters was hospitalised after falling ill.
Detectives from the National Protective Services Bureau are overseeing the investigation, while specialists were drafted in, who are trained in interviewing children to assist with the case.
“Following a garda investigation into allegations of abuse of minors, a member of An Garda Siochána based in the south of the country has been arrested and suspended,” Garda headquarters said in response to queries according to The Irish Times.
