Barry Keoghan To Star In New Iraq War Movie ‘Amo Saddam’

Barry Keoghan is to star in Iraq War movie, Amo Saddam.

Based on the book, The Prisoner in His Palace: Saddam Hussein, His American Guards, and What History Leaves Unsaid, the film will see Keoghan play a US soldier, who is guarding former Iraq leader Saddam Hussein, as the dictator awaits trial for crimes against humanity.

Directed by Johan Renck, production is to begin this autumn, it is also based on the book which focused on the 12 soldiers who grew close to Saddam ahead of his execution.

Produer Hails “adept” Keoghan

Speaking about Barry Keoghan’s casting in this movie, producer Michael Parets also lauded the actor for his ability to play “really complex characters”. 

“Barry has proven himself time and time again to be an actor who is so adept at playing really complex characters and we couldn’t be happier having him as our lead for what is going to be a challenging, ambitious and hopefully really special film”, Parets said.

It is yet to be confirmed who will portray the role of Hussein for this film, with producers hopeful of finding someone from the region, who speaks Arabic.

News of Keoghan’s inclusion in this film, also comes as the actor prepares for this weekend’s BAFTA Awards ceremony, where he was nominated for Best Actor.

Keoghan earned this nod, for his role in Saltburn. He has also been nominated alongside Cillian Murphy. More on this here.
