Kinahan Gang Member Jailed In UK For Owning Stun Gun

A member of the Kinahan crime gang’s been jailed for three years for the possession of a stun gun in the UK.

51 year old Thomas Kavanagh, who is originally from Dublin, and lived near Tamworth in England, was sentenced today after being found guilty in July, following a two day trial in Stoke-on-Trent.

In January this year Kavanagh was arrested at Birmingham Airport by officers from the National Crime Agency in Britain.

It was part of a wider investigation, that also involved Gardai, into money laundering, drugs and firearms supply in the UK and Ireland.

During a search of his home on Sutton Road, Mile Oak, in Tamworth a stun gun disguised as a torch was discovered.

The weapon is illegal in the UK to own or to possess. The 51 year old was convicted in July after a two day trial for possessing a stun gun.

Today he was sentenced to three years in prison.

Following today’s sentencing, lead investigator from the NCA , Peter Bellis said the weapons are extremely dangerous and the wider investigation into money laundering, drugs and firearms supply continues.
