A learner driver collided with railings in a bid to avoid a garda checkpoint. The driver then returned a positive result for cannabis consumption.

Naas gardai were conducting a checkpoint in the run-up to the weekend when the driver attempted to avoid the Guards and turned at speed.

After crashing into the railings, the unaccompanied driver then tested positive for cannabis. If that wasn’t bad enough the car was also untaxed.

The driver was then apprehended by gardai at the scene, and a blood test was undertaken with a court appearance to follow.

Gardai confirmed that at a “Naas Roads Policing at checkpoint – car approached at speed, on seeing Gardaí the car swung to the right & collided with railings. Driver was an unaccompanied Learner, tested positive for cannabis. Arrested & blood Specimen taken. Car also untaxed was impounded. Court to follow.”
