The new National Children’s Hospital has been at the centre of controversy over the cost of the facility.

The final bill could top 1.7 billion euro for the building at the St James Site in Dublin.

The Sunday Times reports that a private outpatients department will also be built on the site. It will have a separate entrance, reception and waiting room.

Private patients will also have access to the hospitals laboratory and diagnostic facilities.

The Children’s Health Group which will run the hospital told the newspaper that the proposal is for consultants to pay a fee for use of the rooms and other operational costs.
