A skydiving plane crash in the north of France has left 11 people dead.

The plane was owned by a parachutist school and was on a teaching trip in Tromblaine near Nancy. There were 5 students onboard, some who had been gifted the experience, 5 instructors and a pilot who were all killed on impact.

It is currently believed that the plane suffered a mechanical failure. Eyewitness's report the plane falling "vertically" from the sky after some report hearing a sound like the engine stopping midair.

The plane crashed into a residential area where it narrowly missed houses and instead landed on a bike lane. Services responded immediately with 25 vehicles and 50 firefighters arriving at the scene. No bystanders were injured.

A forensics investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
