Radio Nova has won the coveted No.1 Dublin breakfast show position, with Morning Glory with PJ Gallagher and Jim McCabe officially overtaking FM104’s long-established Strawberry Alarm Clock in the latest JNLR figures.
The milestone marks the end of almost 30 year run for FM104 in holding the top spot at breakfast-time in the capital, representing a significant shift in the capital’s radio listening landscape.
According to the latest figures, Morning Glory is now almost 10% ahead of its nearest competitor, confirming Radio Nova as the most-listened-to breakfast show in Dublin and cementing its position as the city’s new morning favourite.
Kevin Branigan, CEO of Radio Nova, said, “This is a monumental achievement for Radio Nova and for PJ Gallagher and Jim McCabe. Breakfast radio is the most competitive slot in the market, and to not only take the No.1 position but to do so with a good, strong, lead is exceptional. It’s a testament to the erstwhile good humour and relatability of PJ and Jim in getting such a vote of confidence from listeners”
Reacting to the news, PJ Gallagher said, “After Jim McCabe tolerating everything with me for such a long time it's absolutely fantastic to see him get something out of it after all this hard work and thanks to him bringing me along for the ride. I absolutely love working with Jim and it's just such a nice thing to have that number one beside his name now because it's definitely not me that deserves it as anyone who listens to the show will know.”
“Such amazing news! I actually thought PJ was a bit overcome. He turned bright red - like a strawberry! Turned out it was just trapped wind but still!” Jim McCabe said.
The latest figures also confirm Radio Nova continues to be the No. 1 music radio station in the competitive Dublin marketplace, with almost 30% more share of listening than FM104 and almost double that of Today FM.
Radio Nova CEO & Programme Director, Kevin Branigan, said, "We're overjoyed with the latest numbers. We all work very hard as a team to make Nova the best it can be and it's great to see that it's loved so much by listeners far and wide".
PJ & Jim now have 92,000 listeners in Dublin & Commuter Belt and the weekly listenership of Radio Nova grew 10,000 to 278,000 in Dublin & Commuter Belt.
