Two children were airlifted to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin after sustaining serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision in Co Mayo on Wednesday evening.

The boy and girl were passengers in a car that was involved in a crash with another vehicle on the N59 at Clooneen, Westport, at approximately 7.20pm.

The driver of the car carrying the children, a man in his 30s, was airlifted to University Hospital Galway with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle was taken to Mayo University Hospital with serious injuries.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking with road users who were travelling in the area between 7pm and 7.30pm and may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Westport Garda Station on 098 50230, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
