Emergency personnel responded to the incident on the N80 Stradbally Road shortly after 11pm. The boy, who was travelling as a passenger on the e-bike, sustained serious injuries and was taken for specialist treatment.
The rider, a male in his late teens, was assessed by medical staff at the scene.
Initial information indicates that no other vehicle was involved in the collision.
Garda forensic officers have completed an examination of the area, and the roadway has since reopened to traffic.
Gardaí are now seeking witnesses and are asking anyone who was travelling along the Stradbally Road between St Peter & Paul’s Cemetery and St Fintan’s Hospital from 11pm to 11.30pm to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in obtaining any dashcam or other camera footage recorded during that time.
Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Portlaoise Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any Garda station nationwide.
