Glen Hansard's funeral is to take place in Dublin later today.
This comes after a public wake had been organised in honour of Hansard on Bank Holiday Monday in Dublin, at the Baroque Chapel.
The singer's funeral will take place at St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin city centre at 1.30pm, which will be also open to the public. There will limited access inside the cathedral, given the number of people expected to attend.
Large screens will also show the funeral at St Patrick's Close, while music at the funeral will be provided by Hansard's family and friends.
The singer died last Wednesday after being killed in a motorcycle accident while travelling back from a trad session at The Wren's Nest pub.
Hansard had previously performed live at Trinity College, Dublin as part of the Trinity Summer Series earlier this month, which saw him perform mixture of new material, along with a range of songs from his back catalogue as a solo artist and in The Frames in front of a live audience.
He has also played a range of shows across the UK and Europe.
Glen Hansard started out by busking on Grafton Street, before going on to become one of Ireland's most celebrated performers, winning an Oscar for co writing Falling Slowly, which featured in the Irish drama, Once in 2007.
He also won a Grammy Award for starring in The Commitments, the film adaption of Roddy Doyle's book of the same name in 1991. He played the guitarist, 'Outspan' Foster.
Following his death, a number of household names from music and politics paid tributes to Hansard, including Taoiseach Micheál Martin, as well as singer Bruce Springsteen, and Shane MacGowan's wife, Victoria Mary Clarke. Hansard had performed at MacGowan's funeral in 2023.
Elsewhere, former US President Barack Obama also paid tribute to Glen Hansard after including the track, 'Song Of Good Hope' from his 2012 album, Rhythm And Repose, in his annual summer playlist for 2026.
"It starts with a song [wife] Michelle and I love by Glen Hansard, a great musician who passed tragically this week", Obama wrote. “Our hearts go out to his family".
