An Irish man has died in an apparent drowning tragedy in Thailand, it has been announced.
Reports has said that the man had been holidaying in the Phuket area, and was swimming in a lagoon on Tuesday night.
This comes after a search operation was launched after the man was seen disappearing under the water. Police were called to the scene as well as a forensic team, which was stood down after a number of hours, and the man's body was found near the water's edge yesterday morning.
The Phuket Express had reported that the Irish national's body was later removed for a full post mortem, and a full investigation into his death has begun, with officers examining CCTV in the area, as well as gathering evidence, including interviewing witnesses.
It was also reported in the Phuket Express, that authorities have been in contact with the Irish Embassy in Bangkok.
